Alter Schwyzerweg

The gorgeous winter hiking trail follows the historic “Alter Schwyzerweg”, which was built in the 14th century to provide the shortest connection between Yberg and Schwyz. The area is shaped by moorland landscapes, Alpine meadows and a striking mountain backdrop.

The winter hike starts directly on the Schwyzer pass at the Ibergeregg, Passhöhe bus stop. At first, the route climbs gently across open terrain. After just under one kilometre, it reaches its highest point at around 1,400 m. Gross Schijen lies away from the route, its striking rocky form rising above the pastures.

The remainder is dominated by the descent. The winter hiking trail leads downhill across broad pastures and alongside moorland; with around 380 metres of descent in total, the few short uphill sections are barely noticeable. In the lower section, the forest draws closer and gradually replaces the open landscape.

After four kilometres and just over an hour and a half, the route reaches the Laucheren valley station in Oberiberg. The Hoch-Ybrig, Talst. Laucheren bus stop is located immediately beside the destination in the valley.
