01/ Overview
The route
Always an experience – the mighty Grosse Mythen and the view straight down to the basin of Schwyz, the area’s main town with its widely scattered settlements. A couple of breezy tips: Watch the paragliders take off from their launch site and let your eyes wander to Einsiedeln’s ski jumps on the way back.
The signposted winter hike begins almost immediately from the Rotenflue (Mythenregion) stop. The approximately two-kilometre circuit initially descends gently across open slopes. The expansive terrain dominates the scenery. After just over a third of the route, the lowest point is reached at around 1,500 m. The trail then turns uphill and, roughly halfway round, passes directly by Berggasthaus Rotenfluh.
Beyond the mountain inn, the gentle ascent continues across open terrain. The circuit involves around 70 metres of ascent in total, so the uphill and downhill sections remain short. Towards the end, the winter hiking trail reaches its highest point at just under 1,570 m. From there, the final loop leads back within a few minutes to Schwyz, Rotenflue, where the Rotenflue (Mythenregion) stop lies only around 50 metres from the finish.
