01/ Overview
The route
The winter hiking trail at Stoos offers a leisurely alternative for those who want to escape the bustle of winter sports and find peace in the mountains of Central Switzerland.
From the Stoosbahn mountain station, near the Stoos SZ stop, the winter hike initially leads through the houses of Stoos. Stoos-Seeli lies off the circuit, and the Maria Hilf Chapel is not passed directly either. The settlement soon gives way to open meadows and pastures. The trail descends gently to its lowest point at around 1,220 m, reached after just over one kilometre.
The circuit then turns into a steady ascent, gaining around 130 metres of elevation across open terrain. Near the end, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,350 m; Firenstöckli is the nearest summit. From here, a short descent leads back among the houses of Stoos. After a total of four kilometres and just under an hour and a half, the winter hike finishes back at the Stoosbahn mountain station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
