01/ Overview
The route
Angel figures and poems accompany this short winter circuit through the Tannwald. At Marienhöhe, views open up towards Lake Lucerne, while a nativity scene with life-size figures awaits at Waldweidli.
The short circuit along the Engelweg begins at the Seelisberg, Tanzplatz bus stop. The prepared winter trail initially leads to the Tannwald and into the trees. Angel figures created by local residents line the route; together with poems, they form an Advent calendar. The forest offers children space to play, and despite the short distance of just under two kilometres, the surroundings alternate several times between woodland, open meadows and the houses of Seelisberg.
At Waldweidli, a nativity scene with life-size figures stands in a stable. The route then continues to nearby Marienhöhe, where views open up towards Lake Lucerne. Shortly afterwards, near Brandegg, the winter trail reaches its highest point at around 860 metres. It then crosses more open terrain, with only gentle changes in elevation, back to Oberdorf. After just under half an hour, the Engelweg ends back at the Seelisberg, Tanzplatz bus stop.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
