01/ Overview
The route
From Stockhütte, the marked winter hiking route climbs to Schattigenstock. Open slopes, woodland and views of Lake Lucerne accompany the return along the same route.
From Stockhütte mountain station, the marked winter hiking route initially climbs across open terrain. After just over half a kilometre, the Alpgädeli lies directly beside the route. The route then continues uphill, reaching its highest point at just under 1,400 m after around one kilometre. The Schattigenstock viewpoint characterises the upper section of this short circuit. From here, the view opens out across the wintry mountain landscape as far as Lake Lucerne.
The return follows the same route. It initially descends through woodland before emerging once again onto the open slopes above Stockhütte. Around 150 metres of elevation gain must be covered in total; just under an hour should be allowed for the circuit of a little over two kilometres. At the Alpgädeli, the route rejoins the now-familiar path, which leads back to Stockhütte mountain station without any further ascent.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
