01/ Overview
The route
A revolving gondola, a foot suspension bridge and a spectacular view of the Schwyz basin, the surrounding mountains and lakes – the Engelstock Circuit Trail offers a leisurely hike full of variety.
The five-kilometre, signposted winter hiking trail begins at Sattel Mostelberg mountain station. A little over an hour and a half should be allowed for the circuit. From Mostelberg, the route initially climbs across open pastures. After just under two kilometres, it reaches its highest point at around 1,270 m; the total ascent is approximately 220 metres. Sections of woodland alternate with open terrain, characterising this first part of the route.
The route then descends again through the surroundings of Engelstock without passing over its summit. With the mountain in view, it continues to the lowest point of the circuit before climbing gently to Engelstockweid. The mountain restaurant lies directly on the route and is ideal for a break shortly before the finish. The final kilometre leads back to Mostelberg, from where Sattel Mostelberg mountain station is soon reached again.
