01/ Overview
The route
The historic path leads high above the striking Zügen Gorge, with views of the surrounding peaks and the Landwasser mountain river, which finds its way through the narrow gorge. The hike offers variety in every respect for families, those interested in culture, nature enthusiasts and leisure hikers.
From Davos Glaris railway station, the route initially leads into the village. Near the Reformed Church of St Nicholas, the mountain trail begins, marked almost throughout with white-red-white waymarkers. It climbs from the houses into the forest, gaining elevation on paths that are steep in places. Meadows and pastures open up between sections of woodland, and the settlement is soon left behind.
Around halfway along the route, the hike reaches its highest point near Muchetta at approximately 1,650 m. From there, the route is predominantly downhill. The mountain trail descends through alternating forest and open terrain. Towards the end, the houses of Davos Wiesen come into view. After the village, a final descent leads to Davos Wiesen station, the lowest point of the hike. A good three and a half hours should be allowed for the twelve kilometres, with around 400 metres of ascent and approximately 660 metres of descent.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
