01/ Overview

The route

Round-timber construction in Monstein and on Oberalp. Across the pastureland of the former «Meder» (hay meadows) on Fanezfurgga. The trail leads through the fossil-rich Ducan area, to the waterfall and Sertig village. «Hinter den Eggen» Church dating from 1699.

From Monstein, the mountain trail initially climbs across meadows and pastures to the Oberalp. At OberalpTraum, the village is finally left behind, and the long ascent continues into open, increasingly barren terrain. After a good two hours, the route reaches the Fanezfurgga. The pass lies at around 2,580 m and, close to the Chrachenhorn, also marks the highest point of the hike.

Beyond the Fanezfurgga, the long descent into the Sertigtal begins. Rocky terrain gradually gives way to alpine pastures again; around the Sertig waterfall, the valley drops steeply. The white-red-white waymarked mountain trail also demands care on the descent and eventually leads to the first houses.

Shortly before the destination, the Walserhuus stands directly on the route. A little later, Sertig Dörfli is reached, with its Reformed church. The Sertig, Dörfli bus stop is right by the endpoint, after around twelve kilometres and just under five hours.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
