01/ Overview

The route

This leg sets off from Filisur with its historical village centre. Passing by the dancing witches of Bellaluna, the route leads uphill to the brilliantly preserved historical railway station in Stugl. The end point of Bergün, with its houses reminiscent of those in the Engadin valley, is considered a Mecca for trainspotters.

The hike towards Bergün begins at the Filisur, Schöntal bus stop. Still within the village, the route passes close to the Reformed Church of St Martin, which was originally dedicated to Saint Martin. The trail then descends briefly before the long ascent begins. It enters the forest and steadily gains height above the valley.

Over nine kilometres, the white-red-white marked mountain trail climbs around 600 metres. Forest characterises most of the hike, with open meadows and pastures becoming more prominent only in the upper section. Shortly before Bergün, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,490 m.

A moderate descent then leads towards the destination. After just over three hours, the trail reaches Bergün/Bravuogn, where the hike ends near the railway station.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
