01/ Overview
The route
Witness the pioneering efforts of man and nature on the Path of the Pioneers, which takes you to the geographic centre of Grisons. The Crap Furò natural forest reserve is home to one of the most diverse forests in Switzerland on such a small area.
The circular hike begins in the heart of the village at the Surava, Dorf bus stop. After just a few steps, it passes the church of Sogn Gieri and leaves the houses behind. The mountain trail, marked in white-red-white, enters the forest and climbs steadily. Woodland and ascent define the first section, with no notable intermediate landmarks.
Before the halfway point, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,240 m, near Bot digl Uors. The nine-kilometre circuit involves around 400 metres of ascent and takes just over two and a half hours. The trail then descends through the forest back to Surava. Towards the end, the first houses come into view, and shortly afterwards the circuit closes at the bus stop. The Landgasthaus Post is located near the starting point.
