01/ Overview
The route
To get you warmed up, this long leg follows in the footsteps of the painter Giovanni Segantini. The route boasts gorgeous views, varied paths, two idyllic lakes and a reservoir featuring a submerged village – all within Switzerland’s biggest nature park.
The roughly seven-hour mountain hike begins at the Savognin, Danilo bus stop and leads through Savognin. The trail soon heads up the valley to Tinizong, where the long ascent begins. Covering a total of 21 kilometres and around 1'400 metres of ascent, the mountain trail climbs through forest and later across open meadows and pastures.
Around Alp Flix, the landscape opens out. The small Lai Neir lies slightly off the route. At Cuorts, the trail passes the Cotti Agricultura restaurant and shortly afterwards reaches its highest point at just over 2'000 m. Most of the climbing is now complete.
The route then continues with steady ups and downs towards Marmorera. Along the way, views open up over Lai da Marmorera, the reservoir in the Surses. After the village, a final longer section leads to Bivio; shortly before the destination, the trail follows the Gelgia. The hike ends near the Bivio, posta bus stop.
