Senda Segantini

The Senda Segantini is a unique hiking route through the incomparable Engadin and Sursetter mountain landscape. It follows the footsteps of Italian painter Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899), the great master of combining realism with symbolism.

From the Savognin, Danilo stop, the mountain trail initially leads to Tinizong, then continues up the valley between woodland and open slopes to Bivio. The long ascent continues to the Pass da Sett at 2'310 m. The pass links Oberhalbstein and Bergell; beyond the pass, the trail descends to Casaccia.

At Maloja, the route reaches the Upper Engadin. It now follows the lake district: first directly along the Lej da Segl via Isola to Sils Maria, then later to the shore of the Lej da Silvaplauna. Between the villages, meadows, pastures and woodland alternate before St. Moritz and the St. Moritzersee are reached.

Beyond the forest-fringed Lej da Staz, the trail leads to Pontresina. There, the final major ascent begins across open slopes. Near Munt da la Bês-cha, the mountain hike reaches its highest point at around 2'730 m. The mountain trail then descends to the destination of Muottas Muragl; the stop of the same name is just a few steps away.
