01/ Overview

The route

This mountain hiking trail gives you a tour of a real masterpiece of engineering, following the bank of the river Albula and crossing the railway line multiple times in a section that demonstrates the boldest possible track design. The Railway Adventure Trail reveals the ingenuity behind this century-old piece of railway engineering.

At Bergün/Bravuogn station, the roughly seven-kilometre ascent to Preda begins. The trail soon leaves the houses behind and climbs along a route marked in white-red-white. After a short descent at the start, it gains elevation at a mostly steady rate.

Sections of forest alternate with open meadows and pastures. This keeps the scenery varied, while the total ascent of 520 metres is spread over a good two hours. Around three kilometres into the hike, a barbecue site offers a suitable opportunity for a break. The ascent then continues through the tranquil mountain landscape.

Towards the end, the trail reaches the small settlement of Naz. From here, it is not far to Preda. Shortly before the destination, the route also reaches the highest point of the hike at around 1,780 m. A little later, it ends at Preda railway station.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
