01/ Overview
The route
The cross-country ski trail in the treeless Bergalga valley, a tributary of the higher Avers valley, is above all peaceful. With the Cavetta ski lodges far behind, the only distractions are snow-covered mountain peaks like the Gletscherhorn or Wengahorn.
From the Avers, Rufana bus stop, it is only a few steps to the start in Avers-Juppa. The six-kilometre trail initially crosses open terrain and passes close to Cavetta. It then climbs steadily as the houses recede and the broad expanses of the Avers valley dominate the view.
About halfway round, the trail reaches its highest point at just under 2,080 m, near the Schinetahörner. By this point, the ascent totals around 120 metres. The trail then turns back down the valley. Open expanses continue to characterise the landscape, with rocky terrain emerging in places. The track leads directly back to Avers-Juppa without any major detours; a good one and a half hours should be allowed for the full circuit. The finish is again only just over 200 m from the Avers, Rufana bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
