01/ Overview
The route
This long and challenging trail by the meandering Julia/Gelgia river promises an unforgettable descent in the pine forest of «Val Verda».
The 22-kilometre trail begins in Savognin at around 1,180 m. The starting point is just under half a kilometre from the Savognin, Bursa bus stop. Initially, the route passes the first houses before emerging onto open terrain. Beyond Tinizong, meadows alternate with short stretches of forest as the trail steadily gains elevation.
It continues further into the valley via Rona. Around halfway along, the highest point is reached near Motta Sblocs at approximately 1,450 m. This marks the end of the long ascent, with a total elevation gain of around 520 metres. The trail then turns back towards Savognin. Open terrain continues to characterise the route, interspersed with varied stretches of forest. After a good six hours, the cross-country ski tour ends back at its starting point in Savognin.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
