Rheinwald-Medelserloipe

Panoramic views of the Guggernüll and Einshorn and unique winter landscapes along the young Rhine await you in the Rheinwald if you take the circular trail between the Wakker Prize-winning village of Splügen and the hamlet of Medels.

The eight-kilometre loop starts in Splügen, just under 500 metres from the Splügen, Dorf bus stop. Initially, the trail climbs across open meadows, reaching its highest point at around 1'520 m after just under two kilometres. Fluagrind remains some distance away as the route continues towards Medels.

Around the village, open terrain alternates with woodland edges. A little way off the trail stands the Reformed church of Medels, which is protected as a historic monument by the canton of Graubünden. The Walserhof is also close to the route, although the trail does not pass directly by it.

The trail then follows a long arc through open terrain and woodland. Losing a total of around 150 metres in elevation, it descends to the loop’s lowest point in the final third. It then climbs again, returning to the starting point in Splügen after just over two hours.
