01/ Overview
The route
«Big Pintenfritz» is one of the longest sledge runs in Europe. The route from Faulhorn, through Bussalp and down to Grindelwald Oberäll is therefore an absolute must for sledging fans. Not forgetting the view: The Schreckhorn, Wetterhorn north face and Eiger mountains create the backdrop for your sledging experience.
The sledging run begins at Faulhorn at around 2,550 m, its highest point. The 2,681 m summit lies a good 400 metres away. The start is far from public transport; the nearest stop, Bussalp, is around two and a half kilometres away. The descent initially leads downhill through open, rocky mountain terrain. Broad slopes dominate the scenery before the first buildings appear at Bussalp-Oberläger.
The long descent then continues across open terrain, dropping around 1,400 metres in elevation overall. Towards Grindelwald, the houses become more closely spaced. Shortly before the finish, Weidli Bar stands directly on the route; however, a refreshment stop can only be planned after checking the opening times in advance. Just over two and a half hours is given for the entire descent. After eleven kilometres, the sledging run ends in Grindelwald. The Grindelwald, Oberäll stop is just a few steps from the finishing point.
