01/ Overview
The route
The sledge run Rossweid is a highlight in the Sörenberg winter sports area, especially for families with small children. At first, it is not that steep and promising. Then, it becomes faster and passes part of the ski slope through the unique biosphere area.
The descent begins at the Rossweid stop at around 1,460 m, the highest point on the route. Berggasthaus Rossweid stands close to the starting point. The toboggan run initially crosses open terrain. Views extend across the slopes around Sörenberg as the route descends steadily towards the valley.
Over its two kilometres, the route loses around 300 metres in elevation. Beyond the open ground, it skirts wet meadows before later entering the forest. The character of the ride changes accordingly: broad and open at the top, then more sheltered among the trees further down. After just under half an hour, the first houses of Sörenberg draw closer. The descent ends at the valley station; the Sörenberg (Talst. Rossweid) stop is only a few steps from the finish.
