01/ Overview
The route
The Niederhorn funicular and cableway transport you quickly and conveniently up to almost 2000 m.a.s.l. Enjoy the following half-hour rapid downhill run from the Niederhorn to Vorsass with unrivalled views of Lake Thun and the snow-capped Bernese peaks.
The toboggan run starts at the Niederhorn stop at just under 1,950 m, the highest point of the route. The 1,963-metre summit of Niederhorn is close by and is regarded as Beatenberg’s local mountain. The Niederhorn mountain restaurant is around a hundred metres away. From here, the descent initially leads across open terrain, steadily losing elevation without any uphill sections.
Further on, the surroundings change from open slopes to forest. The lower section brings the toboggan run down towards Vorsass, where the first houses draw closer. A good 40 minutes is indicated for the roughly three kilometres and descent of around 400 metres. Shortly before the finish, Bärgrestaurant Vorsass stands directly on the route. A little further on, the descent ends at the Beatenberg Vorsass stop at around 1,560 m.
