01/ Overview

The route

The Obwalden skiing area Mörlialp offers a superb view of Lake Sarnen. The short sledge run with bends and wooded sections is especially designed for families.

The short sledging descent begins at the Mörlialp mountain station at around 1'550 m. It heads downhill almost immediately. Over one kilometre, the route drops by around 200 metres in elevation, with a good ten minutes allowed for the ride. The Giswilerstock rises in the wider surroundings, although the sledging route does not lead towards it.

The descent initially crosses open terrain. In the second half, the forest draws closer and characterises the final section down to around 1'350 m. The finish is at Mörlialp, just a few steps from the Mörlialp (Talstation) stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Sledding is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
