Schlittelweg Melchsee-Frutt

A fun experience which is fortunately not over too quickly: the sledge run from Melchsee-Frutt to Stöckalp is eight kilometres in length – the longest in Central Switzerland. On the old mule tracks from back then this run gehts over an altitude difference of almost 1000 metres.

The descent begins at the Melchsee-Frutt mountain station, the highest point on the route at around 1,930 m. For the first few metres, the high plateau and the houses of Melchsee-Frutt remain in view. A little way off lies the dammed Melchsee, which gave the village its name. The sledging run then leaves the settlement behind and quickly loses height across open slopes.

Passing the Aa-Kapelle, the surroundings initially remain open. The roughly eight-kilometre descent continues steadily downhill before the forest begins to take over. At Bärgbeizli Cheselen, the route passes directly by the mountain inn. Farther down, the forest closes in more densely around the sledging run.

Towards the end, the first houses of Stöckalp come into view. After a total descent of around 860 metres, the sledging run ends at Waldhaus Stöckalp, just a few steps from the Stöckalp bus stop.
