01/ Overview
The route
A one-of-a-kind winter hiking experience with views down into the Lungern valley basin and across to the Bernese Alps. Far away from any hustle and bustle, this Alpine route slowly ascends up around Finsterbüel to the beautifully located, sleepy village of Breitenfeld.
The winter hike begins almost immediately at the Turren stop by the mountain station. Restaurant Turren lies right at the start of the route. The trail then leaves the station area and crosses open slopes. Expansive pastures and an unobstructed route through the terrain characterise this short tour.
The route climbs steadily over the first half. After around two and a half kilometres, it reaches its highest point at approximately 1,760 m. From here, the gradient eases and the return route descends gently towards Turren. The open landscape remains a constant companion throughout. Over the five kilometres, the route gains around 260 metres in elevation; just under two hours should be allowed for the winter hike. Towards the end, the mountain station comes back into view. The route passes Restaurant Turren and returns to the nearby stop, where the tour ends.
