01/ Overview
The route
A short winter hike along the Waldemme: from Sörenberg, the route climbs gently to the cable car, with the Brienzer Rothorn always in view.
The winter hike starts at the Sörenberg Post PostBus stop in the heart of the village, initially following an almost level route. The first houses are soon left behind, and the route keeps close to the Waldemme. Across open meadows, the Brienzer Rothorn remains in view; this striking summit is the highest mountain in the canton of Lucerne. Chalet Sörenberg lies close to the trail.
The route then continues via Habchegg and Bödili towards Schönenboden. It climbs mostly gently, gaining around 120 metres in elevation overall, and alternates between open ground and short stretches of forest. Where cross-country ski trails meet the winter hiking trail, the tracks are reserved for cross-country skiers.
After just over three kilometres and almost an hour, the highest point is finally reached at around 1,240 m. The Sörenberg-Schönenboden stop is located directly by the valley station; the winter hike ends at the valley station of the Brienzer Rothorn cable car.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
