01/ Overview
The route
A short winter hike leads gently downhill from the centre of Sörenberg to Birkenhof. A playground, farm shop and petting zoo make it an especially appealing destination for families.
The PostBus runs from Schüpfheim to Sörenberg, Post. The route begins at the stop in the heart of the village. Passing Restaurant Bäckerstube, it initially climbs only slightly and reaches its highest point, at just under 1,160 m, after around 300 m. It then leaves the more closely spaced houses behind and descends gently into more open countryside.
Towards Rischli, open meadows alternate with scattered houses. The gentle descent continues past the sawmill and Sörenbergli until Birkenhof is reached after around 2.6 km. The stroller-accessible route is particularly well suited to families: the farm has a large playground, a farm shop selling its own produce and a petting zoo; feeding the animals and enjoying an afternoon snack are also part of the farm experience. Dogs must be kept on a lead along the winter hiking trail. The nearest stop, Sörenberg, Hirsegg, is just under 400 m from the destination.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
