01/ Overview
The route
From Sörenberg, the winter hike climbs across open slopes to Rossweid. Near Schwand, views open up towards Brienzer Rothorn, Hagleren and Schrattenfluh.
The winter hike begins at the lower station of the gondola lift, by the Sörenberg (Talst. Rossweid) bus stop. The route initially passes through the houses of Sörenberg and by Chalet Sörenberg. It then leaves the village behind and climbs steadily across open slopes. The route gains around 320 metres in elevation over a little more than four kilometres.
About halfway along, the route reaches the Schwand alpine hut. Schwand was once characterised by livestock farming and cheese production; its sun terrace lies directly on the route. The continuing ascent through the ski area leads mainly across meadows and pastures. Along the way, views open up towards Brienzer Rothorn, Hagleren and Schrattenfluh.
Towards the end, the route climbs up to Rossweid. At the upper station, it reaches its highest point at around 1,460 m after just over an hour and a half. Berggasthaus Rossweid stands a few steps away. For the return journey to the valley, the gondola lift is located directly by the finish.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
