01/ Overview
The route
High above Lake Thun the snowshoe trail leads from sunny Aeschiried to the foot of the Morgenberghorn. The views of the fantastic mountain backdrop and deep blue Lake Thun are spectacular.
The snowshoe tour begins at the Aeschiried, Schulhaus bus stop, just a few steps from Restaurant Panorama. The circuit initially leads out of the village onto open slopes. The long ascent alternates between pastures and forest, steadily gaining height as far as the area around Greberegg.
Near its highest point, the route climbs to around 1'660 m; Greberegg itself lies a little off the trail. By just under halfway, most of the total ascent of around 820 metres has therefore been completed. The circuit then descends again through wooded sections and across open expanses towards Aeschiried.
A little over six and a half hours should be allowed for the twelve kilometres. Towards the end, the houses of the village come back into view. After passing Restaurant Panorama, it is only a few steps back to the Aeschiried, Schulhaus bus stop.
