01/ Overview
The route
The snowshoe trail in the home of Swiss wrestling king Kilian Wenger leads over Alpine terrain and through mountain forests. Your constant companion along the way is the impressive, broad view of the peaks of the Diemtigtal Nature Park and the Simmental Valley. The terrain features a moderate incline with a few steeper passages; there are no exposed sections.
The snowshoe tour starts in Horboden, Springenboden; the nearest public transport stop, Horboden, Chirel, is about 1.8 km away. Right at the start stands the mountain inn Springenboden; later the path passes the Gsässweid fireplace. At first the route runs over open, snow‑covered slopes, with short sections of forest in between.
The ascent steadily gains altitude and reaches, at just over 1,660 m, the highest point near the Standhore. From there a view opens over the surrounding rounded summits; the loop then gently descends back to Horboden. The circuit measures around 5 km with about 380 m of elevation gain and takes just over three hours.
