01/ Overview
The route
This circular tour with start and end point at Chrindli offers a varied hike through the Stockhorn region. Hike up instead of just around the Cheibenhorn peak and you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Alpine summits.
The snowshoe tour starts at the Chrindi bus stop in Erlenbach i.S. and climbs across open meadows. Right at the start the Hinterstockensee lies directly beside the trail; the lake sits below the Stockhorn in the municipality of Erlenbach in the Simmental. Over around 7 km with about 600 vertical metres of ascent the circuit takes just over four hours.
Higher up the terrain becomes rockier and steeper until the Cheibehore is reached, the highest point at about 1'950 m. The broad flanks repeatedly open up views of craggy summits and wide slopes. From here Mieschflue and Walpersbergflue can be made out as dark, jagged spikes. On the descent the route leads to the Oberstockensee; the Oberstockensee is a lake below the Stockhorn in the municipality of Erlenbach in the Simmental and lies immediately on the path. The mountain inn Oberstockenalp sits only a few steps above and offers a convenient stopping point. Afterwards the path returns across open meadows to Erlenbach i.S. Chrindi.
