01/ Overview
The route
The wooden hills of the Gurnigel are an invitation to enjoy panoramic hikes during the winter months. Up on Selibüel, a magnificent 360-degree view awaits of the snow-capped Jura and the snowy Alpine mountain range.
The four-kilometre snowshoe tour begins near the Gurnigel Pass at the Gurnigel, Stierenhütte bus stop. The circuit initially leads gently downhill through the forest. It then turns uphill, gaining height steadily between the trees. Gradually, the forest thins out and open terrain characterises the rest of the route.
At Selibüel, the route reaches its highest point at around 1'750 m. The summit lies directly on the circuit and forms a distinctive turning point after the long ascent. Here, the Gurnigel forms a prominent range of hills on the northern edge of the Fribourg Alps in the canton of Bern. From Selibüel, the route descends again, first across open terrain and then back into the forest. Towards the end, the circuit closes at the Stierenhütte; after just under two hours, the bus stop of the same name is reached once more.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
