Obergurnigel Trail

The scenic trail connects the Gurnigelpass with the historic Gurnigelbad. The ridge hike to Obere Gurnigel offers magnificent distant views towards the Bernese Oberland, Mittelland and back to the Gantrisch chain.

The short snowshoe tour starts at the Gurnigel, Berghaus bus stop and takes just under three hours. At first the track climbs briefly and reaches at about 1,600 m the highest point near the Zigerhubel; the area belongs to the Gurnigel, a distinctive ridge on the northern edge of the Fribourg Alps. The ascent is moderate; in total roughly 120 metres of elevation are gained.

Afterwards the route leads down over wide, open snowfields and through short stands of forest, partly across untracked terrain. Directly on the route lies the Obere Gurnigel; later the tour passes the small Schwefelbrünneli, a drinking fountain by the wayside. With broad views over the rolling landscape the snowshoe tour reaches the houses of Gurnigelbad. The finish is at Gurnigel, Bad; the bus stop is about 60 m away. On the loop approximately 560 metres of downhill elevation are covered.
