01/ Overview
The route
The circular hike on top of the Rigi offers fascinating views of Lake Lucerne, the Alps of Uri, the cities of Lucerne and Zug, and the lakes of Central Switzerland. From the mountain station, the snowshoe trail leads to Alp Chäserenholz, with views of the Grosse and Kleine Mythen, the landmarks of the Canton of Schwyz.
The snowshoe circuit starts at the Rigi Kulm stop at around 1,750 m, which is also the highest point on the route. The Rigi massif lies between Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz; its highest summit, Rigi Kulm, rises to 1,797 m. The circuit, however, remains below the summit and leads out into open terrain.
The first kilometre descends steadily, losing around 150 metres in elevation. At the lowest point, just over 1,600 m, the route turns and climbs back up across the open slopes. After around one hour and two kilometres, Rigi-Kulm is reached; the stop is immediately beside the finish.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
