01/ Overview
The route
A short snowshoe circuit across the open heights of the Rigi: from Burggeist via Hinder Dosse to Rigi Scheidegg at around 1,650 m and back.
The roughly four-kilometre circuit begins at the Rigi Burggeist mountain station. The marked snowshoe trail crosses open terrain towards Hinder Dosse, initially descending gently. The route then climbs across the Schneealp; on sections where the trail is not broken, snowshoes and poles are suitable equipment. According to the route operator, snowshoes and poles can be hired at Berggasthaus Burggeist.
Just past the halfway point, the ascent becomes steeper. Near Rigi Scheidegg, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,650 m. The summit is part of the Rigi massif and rises above Goldau to the north, and Gersau and Gersauer Bucht on Lake Lucerne to the south. Shortly afterwards come the Rigi-Scheidegg Arche 360° and the Rigi Scheidegg chapel. The circuit then descends once more across the open slopes. Passing Scheidegghüttli, it returns to Rigi Burggeist and ends at the mountain station after just over two hours.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
