01/ Overview
The route
A short, strenuous snowshoe ascent across the Arther Alpen, accompanied by views of the Mythen and Lake Lauerz. After around 600 metres of ascent, the route reaches Rigi Kulm.
The marked snowshoe trail begins at Fruttli station with a steep ascent. The cogwheel railway from Goldau provides access to the starting point via Rigi Klösterli. The route crosses the open snowfields of the Arther Alpen via Guggli to Obere Schwändi. Along the way, panoramic views open up towards the Mythen and Lake Lauerz. As the route of just under four kilometres leads almost entirely uphill, it gains around 600 metres over a short distance.
Higher up, the trail reaches the Chäserenholz alpine restaurant, known for its home-made dairy products and coffee served in a Chacheli. From there, the direction remains clear: upwards to the broad ridge of the Rigi, while the pastures gradually give way to the open summit area. The ascent barely relents, with the final metres of elevation concentrated shortly before the destination. The highest point of the tour lies at around 1,750 m. After roughly two and a half hours, the snowshoe trail ends at Rigi Kulm, just a few steps from the railway station of the same name.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
