01/ Overview
The route
The signposted snowshoe trail climbs from Romiti to Rigi Staffelhöhe. The route crosses open alpine pastures, with views of Lake Lucerne and Rigi Kulm.
The snowshoe tour begins at Romiti station, which can be reached by cogwheel railway via Vitznau. From the nearby Romiti Felsentor stop, the signposted Gratalp Trail climbs across open alpine pastures. Around 370 metres of elevation must be gained in just two kilometres, with about two hours needed for the steady ascent. Along the way, views open up over Lake Lucerne below and across to Rigi Kulm.
At roughly the same elevation as Rigi Kaltbad, the rock chapel of St. Michael lies just over 200 metres off the route. This much-visited pilgrimage site, associated with a legend, is one of Weggis’s protected cultural assets. The trail continues to climb via Chuenzingel to Grathöchi.
Rigi Staffelhöhe station, from where the Rigi Railway descends into the valley, lies just over 300 metres from the actual destination. The trail itself ends at Grathöchi at around 1,565 metres, its highest point near Rigi Rotstock.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
