01/ Overview
The route
Discover Caux, with its delightful Belle-Epoque buildings, beautiful natural surroundings and stunning views, imbued with a romantic ambiance and incomparable charm. This was a favourite place for the empress Sissi to come and do her long walks.
The six-kilometre winter hike begins at Haut-de-Caux station. Restaurant Le Coucou is located right by the starting point, before the route leaves the last houses behind. With only around 90 metres of ascent, it climbs gently and soon enters the forest. Open meadows and clearings repeatedly break up the denser rows of trees.
The highest point is reached about halfway along the route, at around 1'240 m. Tête du Paccot lies a good 400 m off the route and therefore remains a landmark in the surrounding area rather than a destination on the trail. The loop then descends almost imperceptibly, passing once more through forest and across open ground. After a little over an hour and a half, the houses of Haut-de-Caux come back into view. Passing Restaurant Le Coucou, the final short section leads back to Haut-de-Caux station.
