01/ Overview
The route
Snow in May, on the shores of Lake Geneva? At least, that’s what it looks like when thousands of daffodils turn the hills above Montreux into a white sea of flowers. Let your gaze sweep across Lake Geneva as you walk past pastures and forests.
From Les Avants funicular station, the yellow-marked hiking trail soon leaves the village behind. The ascent winds through the forest, gaining height steadily. After around 360 metres of ascent, the highest point of the route is reached at just under 1,200 metres. Shortly afterwards, the trail passes close to the wooded summit of Le Cubly.
Soon after, the ruins of the Tour de Salausex appear between the trees. The square watchtower, probably built in the 10th century, once stood high above Montreux. At the Sallauscex viewpoint, the view opens up towards the town and Lake Geneva. The route then heads downhill again. Sections of forest alternate with open meadows and pastures, and towards the end the houses of Les Avants draw closer. Passing through the village, the six-kilometre circuit returns to the station after a little over two hours.
