01/ Overview
The route
From Vevey, the trail runs along the lake to Villeneuve. On the way you can visit the games museum in Tour-de-Peilz Castle or the famous Chillon Castle, before arriving in the Chablais wine region.
From the Vevey, funiculaire stop, the hike leads through the town and soon reaches the shore of Lake Geneva. The broad hiking trail continues through La Tour-de-Peilz, passing the medieval castle that now houses the Swiss Museum of Games. Lively lakeside resorts then alternate with quieter stretches. The route passes through Clarens and Montreux on its way to Veytaux, where Chillon Castle stands directly beside the trail. This medieval water castle is a highlight of the long stage.
Beyond Villeneuve, the route leaves the lake behind. Open meadows and settlements now shape the landscape as the trail continues via Roche and Versvey to Yvorne. There are no major climbs; only towards the end does the route reach its highest point at around 450 m. It then continues to Aigle and finishes near the railway station. A good six and a half hours should be allowed for the approximately 27 km route.
