01/ Overview
The route
This hiking trail runs from the resort of Les Rasses to the hamlet of Les Cluds, a mecca for winter activities in the region. With its exceptional views of the Alps, from the Eiger to Mont-Blanc, it’s a truly memorable route.
The winter hike starts in Les Rasses, a little way from public transport; the nearest stop, Les Rasses, village, is around 400 m away. From the edge of the village, the four-kilometre circuit heads out into open countryside. With only gentle undulations, the elevation profile remains even as the houses quickly recede into the distance.
After the lowest point, the route climbs gradually to its highest point at just over 1,200 m, near Crêt des Gouilles. Expansive meadows and pastures dominate the landscape. The winter hike then continues to Les Cluds, passing directly by the Café-Restaurant des Cluds. From here, it loops back in a broad arc towards Les Rasses. With no major climbs, the route crosses the open plateau to the starting point in Sainte-Croix Les Rasses, reached again after just over an hour.
