01/ Overview

The route

Don’t be afraid of the cold, entering the «Swiss Siberia» does not mean you will automatically be transformed into a block of ice, like the water of the Lac des Taillères, whose shorelines this route is following.

The starting point is just a few steps from the La Brévine, poste stop. The winter hike leaves the houses of La Brévine behind and climbs gently into the open countryside. After just under two kilometres, the route approaches Lac des Taillères; the lake lies west of the village and adds a tranquil note amid the broad expanses.

The circuit then continues via Les Taillères. Meadows and pastures dominate for long stretches as the route sweeps back eastwards in a wide arc. With a total ascent of around 140 metres, the climbs are short and evenly distributed; a little over three hours should be allowed for the eleven kilometres.

Towards the end, the winter hiking trail climbs gently once more. It reaches its highest point at around 1,070 m near Crêt du Cervelet. The route then descends towards the first houses of La Brévine and ends once again near the La Brévine, poste stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
