01/ Overview
The route
Surprises: the Tour de Moron built by apprentices as well as renewable energies on Mont Soleil and Mont Crosin; picturesque little towns nesting between scenic heights. And don’t forget to sample spicy Tête de Moine cheese.
From Moutier railway station, the hiking trail leads through the town and out into the Chalière valley. Near the Romanesque Chapelle de Chalière, consecrated in 1019, the route briefly follows the stream. The long ascent to the heights of the Jura then begins. Near Moron, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,330 m.
Open pastures, stretches of woodland and scattered settlements characterise the route that follows. Via the Montagne de Saules, it continues in a long succession of ascents and descents to the Col du Fuet and on to Tramelan. The yellow-marked route is mostly gentle, but at 64 kilometres and with around 2,200 metres of elevation gain, it demands considerable stamina. Just under 20 hours should be allowed for the entire route.
Beyond Tramelan, the trail climbs again to the Jura’s long ridges. It leads over the Col du Mont Crosin to Mont Soleil at 1,291 m. Woodland and open pastures alternate as far as La Cibourg. Finally, the route descends to La Chaux-de-Fonds, where the hike ends directly at the railway station.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
