Chemin du Jura bernois, Stage 1/4

The trail leads across wide pastures and past ancient trees over the ridge areas of the Moron. Gravel paths and drystone walls run in a dead straight line across the hilly landscape of the Jura. Moron Tower offers a spectacular view of the Vosges, the Black Forest and across the Alps (temporarily closed).

From Moutier railway station, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially leads through the town. Passing the church of Notre-Dame de la Prévôté, it continues to the Romanesque Chapelle de Chalière, consecrated in 1019. The route then follows the Chalière for a short distance before leaving the built-up area behind.

The long ascent now begins, through woodland and across open meadows and pastures. The broad hiking trail gains elevation steadily before reaching its highest point near the Moron after around three hours. At approximately 1,330 m, this is the high point of the hike, where open pastures and stretches of woodland define the landscape.

Beyond the highest point, the trail becomes gentler. It crosses the Jura heights to Montagne de Saules before descending to Sornetan. After 17 kilometres and just over five hours, the hike ends at the stop in the village. With around 880 metres of ascent, it is above all the long climb that remains in the memory.
