01/ Overview
The route
From Glovelier, the trail leads up to the Combe Tabeillon Nature Reserve. Passing several ponds, hikers reach Le Pré-Petitjean in the heart of the typical Freiberg landscape. Via Montfaucon, a traditional village built on the mountain ridge, you then go through pasture landscapes to Saignelégier.
From Glovelier railway station, the hike leads out of the village and soon reaches the Tabeillon. The stream sets the direction for many kilometres, while the forest along the trail opens up time and again. The waymarked hiking trail climbs gently out of the valley. After a little over two hours, the small Étang de Bollement lies directly on the route.
Beyond the lake, the trail gradually parts company with the Tabeillon. Stretches of woodland now alternate with open meadows and pastures. The Étang de Plain de Saigne also lies directly beside the trail, adding a tranquil note before the route continues across the Jura uplands to Montfaucon. Beyond the village, it reaches its highest point at just over 1,000 metres.
The final kilometres lead with only a gentle descent through open terrain and Le Bémont to Saignelégier. After around 21 kilometres and a little over five and a half hours, the hike ends at the railway station. The total ascent is around 600 metres.
