01/ Overview
The route
For those who don't like walking uphill, this trail is just the ticket – leading from the mountain station of the Grands Plans down to Grimentz. In several switchbacks, it winds its way partly over the busy ski runs. The leisurely second part leads downhill through the forest.
The winter hike begins at the Grimentz Grand Plan stop at around 2,440 m, also the highest point of the route. With virtually no uphill sections, it winds downhill across open terrain. After just under three kilometres, the route passes the Étable du Marais. Farther down, it remains outside the village for some time; meadows and open slopes characterise this section of the nearly three-hour route.
In the final third, the route passes the Chemin de croix des Meyes. The first houses of Grimentz then draw closer, and the open terrain gradually gives way to the village. Over nine kilometres, the route descends around 860 vertical metres, with barely any ascent. After just over two and three-quarter hours, the winter hike ends in Grimentz; the Grimentz (télé) stop is only a few steps from the finish.
