01/ Overview
The route
This winter walk between La Givrine and Le Vermeilley involves a gentle climb affording beautiful views of the forest in the heart of the Parc Jura Vaudois and a panoramic vista of Mont Blanc.
The winter hike, which takes just under three hours, starts directly at La Givrine railway station. The Restaurant de la Givrine is right by the starting point, before the route leaves the small village behind and heads out onto the open heights of the Jura. The main ascent comes early: after just over two kilometres, the loop reaches its highest point near Le Noirmont at around 1'350 m.
After this early high point, the route gradually descends again, interrupted by a few shorter climbs. It remains in broad, open terrain throughout; neither stretches of forest nor prominent settlements characterise this loop. The nine-kilometre route involves around 240 metres of ascent in total. Towards the end, the loop closes at La Givrine. The route returns to the Restaurant de la Givrine and ends after just under three hours directly at La Givrine railway station.
