01/ Overview
The route
The Les Piles trail is an undulating route accessible to all. Crossing meadows and along forest paths, it takes you into a peaceful valley with a richly diverse and unspoilt landscape. An escape into the midst of nature with the choice of the full route or a shorter version.
The circular trail begins at La Trélasse on the open heights of the Jura. The actual starting point is not directly served by public transport; the nearest stop, La Givrine, is around 400 m away. At first, the trail undulates gently across broad pastures. It soon reaches the Col de la Givrine, a road and railway pass at an elevation of around 1'230 m.
The trail then turns into quieter stretches of forest. About halfway along, it climbs near Pointe de Poêle Chaud to its highest point at around 1'250 m. The terrain remains undulating, with no long ascents, before open areas once again appear between the trees. In the final third, the circuit sweeps back in a wide arc towards the houses of La Trélasse. After around 7 km and just under two hours, the trail ends back at the starting point.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
