01/ Overview
The route
This circular route starts in the Thomassette mountain pastures and continues through the impressive Risoud forest, known for its centuries-old pine trees.
The nine-kilometre loop starts at La Thomassette, away from public transport links. The nearest stop, Le Brassus, La Combe, is around 500 metres away. From its lowest point at the start, the trail climbs gradually across open terrain, alternating between broad expanses and forest.
The loop gains most of its approximately 170 metres of elevation in the first half. After just over four kilometres, it reaches its highest point near Roche Champion at around 1,220 m. This also marks roughly the halfway point of the route.
The trail then leads back through forest and across open terrain, with gentler counter-climbs. After just under two and a half hours, the loop closes at La Thomassette in Le Brassus, at exactly the same point where it began.
