01/ Overview
The route
Eleven information panels accompany this short walking tour through Schwyz, taking in patrician houses, monasteries and churches. The focus is on local history as well as traditional festivals and customs.
From the Schwyz, Zentrum bus stop, it is only a few steps to the main square and the town hall. This is where the walking tour through the cantonal capital begins. Eleven panels with pictures and short texts tell of local history, traditional festivals and customs, as well as patrician houses, monasteries and churches.
The route leads through narrow streets to the Ital Reding-Hofstatt. Named after its builder, Ital Reding, this country estate stands at the highest point of the walk, at around 525 m. Shortly afterwards comes the listed parish church of St. Martin, a late Baroque hall church. The almost level walk remains entirely within the town and takes about an hour.
The route continues along Herrengasse towards the Capuchin monastery. The Museum of the Swiss Charters and the Forum of Swiss History also lie along the circuit; visiting the museums offers an opportunity to explore individual topics in greater depth. The route then leads through the centre back to the Schwyz, Zentrum bus stop.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
