ViaJacobi, Stage 6/33

This stage includes a boat trip from Brunnen to Treib, where the cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Nidwalden meet. The chapels along the way and the Winkelried monument in Stans are worth seeing.

The long day hike begins at the Schwyz, Drei Könige bus stop. It leads through the village centre, past the late Baroque parish church of St. Martin and on via Ibach to Brunnen. Here, the route reaches the shore of Lake Lucerne. Between Brunnen and Treib, it crosses the lake; the steepest ascent begins on the opposite shore.

Above Treib, the broad hiking trail becomes a steeper mountain path. Woodland and open meadows alternate until the route reaches its highest point at just under 800 m. The descent then leads past the Heiligkreuzkapelle to Emmetten, where the first houses once again line the way.

From Emmetten, the route continues to Beckenried and then on via Buochs. Meadows and woodland shape the scenery between the villages, while the lake draws closer again in the villages themselves. In Buochs, the trail passes directly by the church of St. Martin. The final kilometres lead through built-up areas to Stans. From the finish, it is just over 200 m to Stans railway station.
