01/ Overview

The route

Short high-level hike from Rotenflue to Ibergeregg, with open alpine pastures, wet meadows and sweeping views of the Stoos Alps and Hoch-Ybrig.

The Rotenflue cable car takes hikers up to Rotenflue. At around 1,570 m, the highest point of the route comes right at the start. From here, the broad hiking trail descends gently across open pastures. Along the way, mountain restaurants with playgrounds offer opportunities for a break; beyond them, the views extend to the Stoos Alps and across to Hoch-Ybrig.

The route continues across the open high ground with gentle ups and downs. At Müsliegg, it is worth stopping at the viewpoint. Alpine pastures then alternate with wet meadows as the trail continues to lose elevation overall. After a little over three kilometres and just under an hour, the hike ends at Ibergeregg. The pass links Schwyz and Oberiberg; the nearby PostBus stop provides a convenient direct return to the valley station of the Rotenflue cable car.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
