01/ Overview
The route
Sweeping views to the water meadows of Schwyz narrow at the bridge where Suworow and his army were stopped in late autumn 1799. A tranquil stroll in a famous and history-laden valley.
From the Schwyz, Drei Könige bus stop, it is only a few steps to the main square. The route passes the late-Baroque parish church of St. Martin and soon leaves the centre of Schwyz behind. Meadows and pastures open up between the last houses; initially, the trail loses a little elevation.
Along the yellow-waymarked hiking trail, open terrain alternates with sections of woodland. The open areas are characterised by meadows and pastures. At Schlattli, after around six kilometres, the forest begins to predominate. The route now climbs gently for longer stretches, interspersed with short, flatter sections, and continues steadily towards Muotathal.
Towards the end, the houses of Muotathal come into view once more. The destination also marks the highest point of the hike, at around 610 m. After a total of 14 kilometres and a little over three and a half hours, the route ends near the Muotathal, Schulhaus bus stop.
